Companion Services

Life is better together.

Companion Services focus on meaningful relationships built through shared experience. Hobbies, meals out, parks, movies, recreation, and the ordinary social life that makes a week feel like a life.

Why it matters

Loneliness is a health condition that nobody writes on a chart.

Adults with intellectual disabilities and autism are among the most socially isolated people in the country. School ends, the structured friendships end with it, and the calendar quietly empties out. Families notice it long before any assessment does.

Companion Services exist to put something back in that calendar. Not therapy, not a program. Company. Someone who turns up, knows what you like, and is genuinely glad to see you.

What it looks like

A standing appointment with your own life.

Companion support is deliberately unstructured, because friendship is. What it always has is consistency: the same person, the same day, long enough that it becomes something to look forward to on Monday rather than a surprise on Thursday.

  • Coffee, lunch, or dinner out somewhere they chose
  • Hobbies pursued properly, with the right kit and enough time
  • Movies, concerts, games, and local events
  • Walks, parks, and easy afternoons with no agenda
  • Company at home on the days when going out is too much

How we match

Shared interests are not a nice extra. They are the whole method.

We ask what someone actually cares about before we ask what days are available. A companion who follows the same team, watches the same shows, or likes the same music has something to build on from the first hour.

If the match is not working, we say so and we change it. Nobody should have to be polite about a friendship that was assigned to them.

How it improves a life

The week gets shorter and the world gets bigger.

  • Something to look forward to on a fixed day each week
  • Conversation practice with someone who is not family or staff by role
  • Confidence in public places that used to feel off limits
  • Photos, stories, and in-jokes that belong to them
  • Real relief for a family carrying the entire social calendar alone

Straight answers

Questions we get asked about this service.

If yours is not here, call 484-378-2277 and ask. We would rather answer it now than have you guess.

The funding is different and so is the intent. Companion time is deliberately unstructured, because friendship is. What it always has is consistency: the same person, the same day, long enough to become something to look forward to.

We change the match, and you do not have to justify it. Nobody should have to be polite about a friendship that was assigned to them.

Yes. On days when going out is too much, company at home counts. A film, a game, a cup of tea and a conversation is a good use of the hour.
